Call for applications 2022 for the 'Taxonomic training and access to Belgian collections' (GTI)

The Belgian Focal Point for the Global Taxonomic Initiative (GTI), managed under the CeBIOS program - https://cebios.naturalsciences.be/, based at the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences of Belgium, informs you of the launch of the new call for applications for its project to strengthen capacities in taxonomy and collections management for the year 2022.

This call aims to support scientists from developing countries in their research on specific taxonomic groups. GTI grants fund short-term research stays (up to 4 weeks) of individual students or scientific staff from eligible developing countries to a Belgian taxonomic expertise center (for example, the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences, the Meise Botanical Garden, the Meise Botanical Garden, the Meise Botanical Garden, the Africa Museum, a specific university research group, or another taxonomic facility).

Internships focus on a specific taxonomic group (s) relevant to sustainable ecosystem management and sustainable local livelihoods - these may be plants, animals, fungi, bacteria, or other (micro-) organisms - and generally include combined theoretical and practical training in taxon identification, taxa classification, and/or collection management.

Access to scientific literature, specialized databases and specific infrastructures and collections in Belgium can also be obtained during study visits.

The 2022 call for projects will fund short-term visits to Belgium for students, young researchers or experienced taxonomists in order to strengthen the scientific and technical expertise in biodiversity of partners in the South.

The 2022 call is open to researchers from Niger, Côte d'Ivoire, Ivory Coast, Gambia and Guinea, as well as to researchers from Belgian Development Cooperation partner countries who received a GTI grant in 2020.

You will find all the information relating to the call for applications here: https://taxonomy.naturalsciences.be/specific-training/short-term-scholarships/ (in English)

All applications must be submitted via our automatic online application system. Each application must be completed with a recent curriculum vitae (C.V.) and a photo.
The online application form can be found here:
https://taxonomy.naturalsciences.be/appel-gti-externe-2022/

The call is open until May 15, 2022.

The decisions will be communicated to the candidates in the second week of June. All projects must take place between September 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023.
