Sixth national report of the CBD
This sixth national report of the Convention on Biological Diversity is based on guidelines adopted at the 12th Conference of the Parties (Korea). These take the form of open and closed questions relating to the implementation of the Aichi Targets. The guidelines are set out in Annex II.
Among other important measures, Guinea is committed to i) curbing the rate of biodiversity degradation, ii) raising awareness of the importance of biodiversity through awareness-raising, information, and educating the public and decision makers, iii) increasing the rate of coverage of the national territory in protected areas. This rate was set at 25% of the national territory in the current strategic phase of the CBD (including 15% for terrestrial protected areas and 10% for marine protected areas). This is possible due to the availability of space and important landlocked areas not yet covered in terms of conservation, especially along the borders with neighboring countries (Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Sierra Leone, Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia) where the resource potential is significant, and the human densities relatively low (3 to 4 inhabitants/km²).
