The regional study to monitor the coastline and develop a master plan for the coastline of West Africa was initiated by UEMOA as part of the regional programme to combat coastal erosion (PRLEC — UEMOA), the subject of Regulation 02/2007/CM/UEMOA, which is the subject of Regulation 02/2007/CM/UEMOA, adopted on 6 April 2007. This decision was also in response to the recommendations of the Conference of Ministers responsible for the Environment on 11 April 1997 in Cotonou. In its conclusions, the meeting of Ministers responsible for the Environment, held on 25 January 2007 in Cotonou (Benin), approved this regional programme to combat coastal erosion.
