Module 1: Introduction to national biodiversity strategies and action plans.

This module presents the context of a training package that provides guidance for preparing and/or updating national biodiversity strategies and action plans and the best use that can be made of them after they have been prepared. First, the module provides an explanation of the elements, design, recipients and how to use this training package. The second section provides a brief account of recent developments in national biodiversity strategies and action plans, including the results of the review of the implementation of goals 2 and 3 of the former strategic plan, and the relevant guidance of the Conference of the Parties for national biodiversity strategies and action plans. The third and final section presents the 2011-2020 Strategic Plan for Biodiversity and explains the expectations of Parties with respect to national biodiversity strategies and action plans for the period 2011-2020.
