Protected Areas in Guinea
Since the Caracas Declaration in 1992, followed by the Rio Summit, and the ratification of the
Convention on Biodiversity, the problem of conservation has taken on particular
importance in developing countries. Recent developments see the convergence of concerns about
decentralization, local management of resources, and conservation in a more global
approach to the management and allocation of spaces on the national territory.
Guinean protected areas are generally recent, and constitute a mosaic that is still
relatively heterogeneous, both in terms of their status and the progress of their
establishment, or the resources devoted to their management.
