PRABV: Firewood consumption and popularization of improved stoves
Reducing the pressure on plant cover is one of the most important objectives among those set by the Watershed Programme Projects. The use of improved stoves is one way to achieve this. In this context, the DAB 1 project has worked to popularize improved stoves, either metallic or made of clay. One of the main difficulties encountered in carrying out this action was to prove to women the effectiveness of these stoves and the wood savings they could expect. In addition, knowledge of the quantity and quality of wood consumed for the preparation of meals was considered important for the purpose of land management. To do this, the project team developed a survey with the objective of: a) allowing village women to “visualize” wood consumption before and after the introduction of improved stoves and b) the collection of data useful for basin management.
