Chimpanzees are found on almost all of Guinea's territory, with the exception of the extreme
east of the country. However, residents of this region report that chimpanzees
once lived there and only recently disappeared. Guinea is probably the country in West Africa with
the largest number of chimpanzees with around 17,582 individuals (between
8,113 and 29,011).
