Hydro-agricultural development of the Nimba Mountains
The main threat to the Nimba Mountains Reserve is the ever-increasing pressure from farmers facing the bankruptcy of traditional production systems. The increased needs created by population growth and, locally, by the influx of refugees have led to overexploitation of the environment, which has resulted in a shortage of arable land, farming practices (land clearing, burning, poaching, etc.), the reduction of fallow time and the disappearance of soil fertility.
