The Biosphere Reserves (RB) were created within the framework of the UNESCO “Man and Biosphere” (MAB) Programme, on the proposal of the governments of the candidate countries.

They are internationally recognized protected areas. The central idea is to reconcile the needs of communities and the functions of preserving natural resources through the establishment of a reserve, and to ensure the long-term viability of both the sources of subsistence of populations and of biodiversity.
