Forest policy and natural resources management in Guinea
Despite relatively favorable climatic, ecological and human conditions, Guinea is experiencing a very high level of deforestation due to the lack of interest of the Government, for many years, in this aspect of the country's natural resources and for its role in maintaining agricultural and economic potential.
Starting in 1984, a systematic approach was undertaken, based on a coherent approach, to deal with this situation. This effort has resulted in the development of a new forest policy that highlights both the concepts of forest management and management and the option for decentralized action, giving populations their responsibilities. It is thus one of the few approaches that could be defined by counteracting the social aspects of the forest from the start.
