Diwasi Park: Achievements, Constraints and Challenges.
DIWASI, a contraction of the Malinké Di arra, Wa ra and Si i, in reference to three mammals in the area (lion, panther and buffalo), is the name given to an area of 104,000 hectares located in the Kankan Nature Reserve in Upper Guinea.
The creation of the DIWASI Park - the first amodized zone in Guinea (Order No. 11200 issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Water and Forests dated 31/12/2004, with emphyteutic lease No. 0129 dated 24/02/15 dated 24/02/15 for 45 years renewable) - was born from a common desire of the Guinean State and a French family, in order to contribute to the protection and conservation of of a natural heritage recognized as exceptional, but unfortunately threatened.
Straddling the Sub-Prefectures of Sabadou Baranama and Boula, in the western part of the Kankan Nature Reserve, this natural area is a Protected Area and represents approximately 1/5th of the area of the Kankan Nature Reserve.
