Module 4: Establishing national biodiversity goals in accordance with the framework of the 2011-2020 Strategic Plan for Biodiversity, including the Aichi Targets.

This module focuses on the importance of goals as tools to move from policies to concrete and measurable results in reducing the rate of biodiversity loss. It provides a brief history of the development of the goals in the context of the Convention on Biological Diversity as well as the 2011-2020 Strategic Plan and the 20 Aichi Biodiversity Targets. The second part of this module explains various ways that countries can use to develop their own national goals and provides numerous examples. He concludes by briefly discussing some ways to monitor progress towards the goals, including the use of indicators.
