Disaster Risk Reduction Integration Tool
The development process does not necessarily reduce vulnerability to natural disasters. On the contrary, it may unintentionally create new forms or worsen pre-existing forms of vulnerability, impeding efforts to reduce poverty and promote growth, sometimes with tragic consequences. That is why solutions that benefit all must be explicitly and actively sought in order to ensure sustainable development, reduce poverty and increase resilience to disasters, especially as climate change is likely to increase the frequency of droughts and floods and the intensity of windstorms. It is by integrating disaster risk reduction strategies and measures into the overall development framework and by considering risk reduction as an integral part of the development process and not as an end in itself that the best solutions will be developed.
