Niokolo - Badiar Project
The Niokolo-Badiar Project, born in 1994, concerns the prefecture of Koundara in Guinea and its extension with the Niokolo-Koba National Park (and Biosphere Reserve since 1981) in Senegal. This sub-regional territorial domain, which includes two National Parks, two Classified Forests and a vast peripheral area, has been given the name of “Niokolo-Badiar Ecological Complex” (Map 1 and APPENDIX 3). During the international seminar on PRABV Upper Niger and Upper Gambia, held in Guinea from 20 to 25 March 1995, it was recommended to strengthen the management of this complex but also to establish it as a Transboundary Park and an International Biosphere Reserve.
