According to a report prepared jointly by the United Nations Environment Programme and the Union for Nature, the fight to preserve the world's most spectacular habitats and the unique fauna and flora associated with them continues to make significant progress. More than 100,000 protected areas, 90 percent of which have been on the list for less than 40 years, have been established across the developed and developing world.
